Joshua Giles is an African American lyric tenor from Sawyerville, Alabama with a mission to positively impact the lives of others through music. Celebrated for his brilliant tone and musical versatility, Joshua's performances are upheld by the many people who have taught and inspired him throughout his career. He has graced various classical and non-classical stages alike - establishing himself as a diverse performer and vocalist. Highlight performances include Duca in Verdi's Rigoletto, Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir D'amore, Lion in The Wizard of Oz, and Ensemble in a premiere of Mutt: A New Musical Comedy.
Recently, Joshua accepted a Graduate Assistantship under the tutelage of his current vocal instructor, Professor Nathan De'Shon Myers, at Arizona State University's School of Music, Dance, and Theatre. While pursuing a master's degree in opera performance, he has been afforded the opportunity to conduct, lead rehearsals, teach curriculum, and officiate studio seminars. Similarly, while pursuing his bachelor's degree in vocal performance at the University of Montevallo, Joshua oversaw the production and composition of two original, student written, and critically acclaimed musicals; "Cryptid Conspiracy" and "Pleasant Vanished." In addition to composition, while therein he conducted the orchestra, lead music rehearsals, and organized a cabinet of individuals to oversee the varying aspects of production such as set-building, lighting design, and media marketing.
Joshua is also a celebrated performer of international appeal, having sung throughout Austria and Italy. In 2023, as a semi-finalist of the Music International Grand Prix, he won the scholarship to attend the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. There he performed in various venues around the city and its' neighboring municipalities as a soloist and duettist. Highlight performances include Una furtiva lagrima in the AIMS Festival Orchestra Concert, Amen for the Spiritual's Concert, and The Cherry Duet for the Buona Sera Graz Italian Opera Gala. In 2025, within the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, near the Valmarecchia area, he toured and performed the role of the Duke in La Musica Lirica's fully staged production of Rigoletto.
Currently, Joshua is based in Phoenix, Arizona and is preparing to perform in Arizona Opera Company's productions of La Cenerentola and Madama Butterfly. Additionally. he is preparing a recital for early 2026 entitled Joy comes in the morning: a narrative, which will feature selections from composers such as Puccini, Tosti, Finzi, and Ricky Ian Gordon, etc.
